And the realization that the things our families need to know are scattered in places no one but us remembers.
From Lauren Petersen, our founder and CEO
A few months after my husband and I got married, he rented a storage unit for our extra things. One day we drove over to pick something up, and as we pulled up to the gate, he typed in a code to get onto the property. I remember thinking, I don't know that code. Then we drove up to the unit, and I realized I didn't know which one was ours. He pulled out the key, and I realized I didn't know where he kept it. I didn't know if we paid month to month, or a year in advance, or if it auto-renewed somewhere.
It was a small thing, just a storage unit, but standing there I had a clear thought:
The longer I sat with it, the bigger it got. My husband paid our rent and the utilities, and some of our subscriptions were on his credit cards, though I couldn't have told you which ones. There were accounts I'd never logged into and investments I knew existed but couldn't have named, plus autopay running on a dozen things I didn't even realize we were paying for.
Now we have three young kids at home, and what was an unsettling realization about a storage unit has become something much heavier. If something happened to me, or to my husband, the person left behind would be facing the hardest thing of their life while also trying to piece together everything we never wrote down, with three kids depending on them.
That's why I built IvorySafe. The goal was never to be morbid or to make anyone dwell on what could go wrong, but to make sure that on the worst possible day, the people you love don't also have to become detectives.
These are commitments we hold ourselves to, because our own families are counting on this too.
We built true end-to-end encryption from day one, before we had a single paying customer, because there was no version of this product worth building without it.
We'd rather be straight with you even when it's awkward or when it might cost us a sale. If we don't have a feature yet, we'll say so, and if something goes wrong, you'll hear it from us first.
We make money one way, through subscriptions. We don't sell data, run ads, or share your information with third parties to pad our margins. If we ever change something that affects you, we'll tell you directly and give you time to decide.
You're trusting us with the information your family would need on the worst day of their life. We carry that responsibility every time we ship.
Lauren had the storage unit moment that started all of this. She leads product, brand, and the day-to-day vision of what IvorySafe should be for the families it serves.
Nate runs business operations and strategy as our COO. He's the one making sure the company that protects your information is itself built to last.
Terry is the developer behind IvorySafe. He builds and maintains the platform, from the encrypted vault itself to the infrastructure it runs on.
We're a small team, and we read every email. If you need help, have a question, or want to tell us what you wish IvorySafe did, we'd love to hear from you.
